Understanding Coffee Terminology
Roast Levels
Light: preserves origin character, bright acidity, floral and fruity notes. Medium: balanced sweetness and acidity, caramel and chocolate notes. Dark: bold body, smoky and rich, lower acidity.
Processing Methods
Washed: clean, bright, emphasises acidity. Natural: fruity, wine-like, full body. Honey: sweet, balanced between washed and natural.
Tasting Notes
Descriptors like chocolate, berries, citrus, or caramel help communicate flavour profiles. These are not added flavours but natural characteristics developed during growing, processing, and roasting.
